Ashanti Shequoiya, better popularly known as Ashanti, is a famous American singer and actress. Ashanti is a United States singer, songwriter, and actor. Ashanti was first discovered when she was a teenager and eventually signed to Murder Inc. Records in 2002. That that same year, she was in Fat Joe's What's Luv? The singer also featured on Fat Joe's song"What's Luv!" as well as the Ja Rules track Always on Time Both of them were huge hits. Ken-Kaide Douglas is her father. She is the eldest and Kenashia Shia Douglas is her younger sister. Douglas named her Ashanti to honor Ghana's Ashanti Empire, where women held power and had power and influence. Douglas wanted Ashanti to adopt this same model.
